Great, well shot film with lots of atmosphere, a good story, plenty of suspense, loads of action, just the right amount of humour, and great acting .... with the possible exception of bad man in shorts who never really convinces.
The only reason that I don't give it five stars is that the ending badly let it down. I was left confused as to the mechanics of how the the end .... without wanting to give anything away ... took place, the characters seemed to be inexplicably acting out of character, the suspense just was not there, and the big "punch line" linking back to the start of the film didn't work.
But ... well worth seeing.
This masterfully executed thriller with an edge to it. The soundtrack is probably the star of the movie, although, especially in the beginning, with the pieces by chemical brothers, it does feel you're watching a music video, rather than a movie.
My hat does go out to the leads of the movie, Ms Roenan and Ms Blanchett with her fantastic northern accent and vengeful wit.
The friendship story that develops inside the movie with the minor, but by no means, less spectacular role is also very compelling and the father-daughter relationship is extremely well portrayed and in the final scenes, and indeed, much throughout the movie you find yourself rooting for the title character in her endeavor for self-discovery and revenge.
5 stars very well deserved indeed.
