This is a landmark 'Bollywood' film which marks the distinct transition from provincial Indian Cinema to a more internationally styled film with as much English as there is Hindi spoken in the film.
The star Amitabh Bachan continues to be a man for all seasons and is pivotal to the film without dominating it, giving room to lots of young faces many of whom are making their fist tender steps into the film world.
Ben Kingsley better known as Gandhi in India, complements Bachan to create a brilliant duo who are both mathematicians
The film is simply brilliant and not to say the least riveting it takes one back to ones college days.
Leena Yadav's earlier film 'Shabad' (2005) was evocative too and ahead of it's times in terms of traditional Indian audiences... as it boldly addressed adultery. Five years later today adultery is openly discussed and the latest issue of 'The Week' a popular English magazine has a story on adultery.
I just saw a very impressive review in the New York Times and I shall surely be seeing the film again.
