In the residential area of Winton, Cafe Oasis is a simple local cafe with a regular customer base and cheap but reliable food and drink.

The Venue
Cafe Oasis is easy to walk past and ignore which is why, it seems, its customers have known it for a while. They come here to see familiar faces, catch up on the gossip and enjoy a dependable cup of coffee.

The decor suits this simple purpose, with basic pale wood furniture, fresh-looking cream walls and not much else.

The look may be basic but this cafe is all about simplicity and lack of fuss. If you're planning a quick bite and a coffee then this is ideal but, if you want to linger here, make sure you have company as after a while you’ll become bored staring at nothing in particular.

The People
At most times of the day there are always people milling around this cafe, usually older locals who would rather buy their food and sit in the company of others than stay at home.

Staff give you a friendly smile and a few familiar words as you step inside. Everyone here is casually dressed and usually here with someone, be it with colleagues on a tea break, friends catching up or an old couple reading the paper.

There’s chatter vibrating around the room but it never gets too loud, and the place is bustling but not so raucous that you can’t enjoy your cup of tea.

The Food and Drink
To fit in with the usual English caff menu, simple food is offered in Cafe Oasis. You can get a full English breakfast for £4.20 which looks good enough, plus plenty of variations of toasted sandwiches, panini, baps and jacket potatoes for £3 to £4.

There are also fresh salads that aren’t very exciting but not bad for £3. The cakes (£1.70 a slice) are the typical English favourites, however they don’t look or taste freshly baked so can be rather hit and miss.

Drinks are bog standard, with coffees and teas under £2 (which are great with a toasted tea cake) coming in a decent sized mug, and the soft drinks are the usual mix of fizzy drinks and juices.

The Last Word
For a quick coffee and snack, Cafe Oasis doesn’t thrill but it delivers, which is good enough for the straightforward locals who come here.
