Renarto is a deli cafe serving up fresh simple food to refuel and calm shoppers in the middle of the hectic Dalkeith Arcade.

The cafe has been elegantly designed, with sleek dark wood furniture, and a pretty fresh flower on each table to add a touch of colour and brightness.

Even though it's in a shopping arcade, the cafe effortlessly cuts you off from the chaos of the outside shoppers to create a more serene atmosphere, but still with a decent view to people-watch.

Old retro posters on the cream walls stand out and are interesting to look at, unless your eye is drawn to the counter displaying a colourful array of fresh food which grabs the attention of most customers.

The People
The friendliness of the staff who are rushing around adds a fun liveliness to the place, with shoppers of all ages sitting down to relax properly instead of grabbing a coffee to go. The hint of sophistication makes a nice change from basic cafes, giving customers a more relaxing experience.

The people-watching is of course addictive, but shoppers aren't the only ones to watch - the diners inside the cafe are an eclectic mix, with mums on a coffee-morning break and trendy students dodging lectures.

The Food
As Renarto is also a deli, it uses good quality ingredients to create its simple dishes to make much more impact on the taste buds.

The cafe staples are present, such as a good selection of panini for £4, and simple pastas and salads for around £5 but there are also crepes. Sweet or savoury, they have it all, with interesting combinations such as dolce latte cheese, artichokes, olives and pesto, as well as the classics like lemon and sugar that never fails to please.

There are also quite a few pastries and cakes to choose from if a sweet crepe doesn’t suit, but somehow a simple crepe takes everyone back to happy pancake days where they can bask in silly nostalgia.

The Drink
Freshly ground coffee beans are used for their coffees to maximise the flavour and aroma, and the basic choices are all available for £1.30 to £2. There are also plenty of soft drinks and other beverages to choose from, but nothing out of the ordinary for a cafe.
