I must say that the venue is beautifully decorated and it really does look the part. The food was lovely on my last visit as well - if on the expensive side of things for what we got.
That's the good out of the way, now on to the bad. What was once a chilled pub that doesn't take itself too seriously has now turned into an expensive overly pretentious establishment. Sure, the bar staff might look relaxed and I'm pretty sure they are as service is painfully slow once there's the slightest queue at the bar and there is a feeling of the staff doing you a favour by serving you as if you're lucky to be in there. I did have one of the bar staff tell me how good the cocktails are and he duly disappointed with a very poor Mojito. Food seems to take forever to arrive and while very nice, is expensive.
I'd say that if you're looking for a relaxed bar for a reasonable priced drink, head down the hill to Reef Encounter. If you want a place that serves quality cocktails, head into town and 1812 and if you want a lovely meal, head to Westbeach.
To sum Urban Beach up - I'd say it's a jack of all trades and a master of none. It looks nice though....
